The idea for the perfect weekend in Zagreb
Visit the town of Zagreb, rich in historical significance. Visit the old Gradec and the Capitol, walk down the center and enjoy the numerous historical monuments of the city.
Today's Zagreb has grown out of two medieval settlements that for centuries developed on neighboring hills. The first written mention of the city dates back to 1094 when it was founded on Kaptol, while in 1242, neighboring Gradec was proclaimed a free royal city. Both the settlements were surrounded by high walls and towers, remains of which are still preserved.
Administrative merging of Kaptol, Gradec and the surrounding settlements in the integrated city of Zagreb in 1850, the development accelerated still more.
Zagreb is also the hub of the business, academic, culture, art and entertainment. A birthplace and a workplace of many prominent scientists, artists and athletes. Visitors can feel the Baroque atmosphere of the Upper Town, picturesque open-air markets, diverse shopping and a rich choice of crafts, delicious local cuisine. Zagreb is a city of green parks and walks, with many places to visit in the beautiful surroundings. Despite the rapid development of the economy and transportation, it has retained its charm and relaxed atmosphere, which makes it a city on a human scale.
