Astronomical Observatory - be sure to visit and be closer to the stars
Zagreb Astronomical Observatory is located near the city center, only a 5min walk from the Ban Jelacic Square in Opaticka Street 22, in the evening open for visits of citizens, when in case of favorable weather conditions, preformed sky observation telescopes with expert explanations. Observatory on Popov Tower in Zagreb's Upper Town (Opatička 22) is based on the initiative of the Croatian Natural History Society (HPD), and the City Government for its handed over rooms in the Popov watchtower, approved funding for building renovation, installation of the astronomical telescope and dome. It was opened on 5 December 1903.
The observatory is from the very beginning had intensified efforts to promote scientific knowledge, especially among citizens and young people, and by the time the popularization of astronomy and related sciences and constant support school astronomy, became its core business since the observatory in cities gradually losing significance of scientific observation stations.
